Back to School: Home Office Essentials
With the kids back in school, designing a dedicated study space at home is more important than ever. As your student settles into their routine, having a specific area for completing homework and preparing for tests can make all the difference. A well-designed workspace not only helps kids stay focused and organized but also fosters a positive learning environment where they can thrive. Whether your child is working on math problems, reading assignments or creative projects, creating a designated spot for academic activities is key to supporting their success throughout the school year.
CREATE COMFORT
As more classrooms incorporate the use of technology into learning, your student might be spending more time on a computer or take-home tablet. Help keep them comfortable at their desk by investing in a good chair or a lumbar support cushion.
KEEP SUPPLIES AT ARM’S LENGTH
Back-to-school supplies are always a necessity. From pencils to notebook paper to crayons, keep all supplies within easy reach. Set up pencil holders on the desk or dedicate a drawer for school supplies. Keeping things accessible will help your child save time and most importantly, stay focused.
GET INTENTIONALLY ORGANIZED
People are more productive when they work in an organized space. Rather than leaving supplies and papers scattered about, make sure everything has an intentional place. Invest in colorful folders, binders and paper trays to keep everything neat and tidy.
If you have multiple children sharing a limited space, consider purchasing plastic tubs or baskets to store each child’s materials when the school day is over. Label each container and add stickers for a fun way to show each child’s personality.
CHOOSE GOOD LIGHTING
Late-night homework or studying can strain the eyes and cause drowsiness. To keep your child alert and comfortable, ensure the study area has adequate lighting. Add a small desk lamp, floor lamp or brighter bulbs in any overhead lights to create a well-lit environment.
HAVE FUN & DECORATE
Creative work is done best in a visually pleasing space, so don’t skimp on interior design. Personalize the space to make it a place where your children enjoy spending time. Consider incorporating colors that encourage learning, such as green (for concentration), orange (a mood booster), blue (for productivity) and red (for energy).
